Can You Make a Business Account Private on Instagram?

No, you can’t. Instagram doesn’t have this functionality yet. But what you can do is set your personal account to private.

Therefore, to solve the “Business accounts can’t be private” error, you’ll have to switch back to your personal account to make it private.

Check out how that’s done below::

1. Tap on the Menu icon

Begin by opening Instagram and opening your profile page (tap the profile icon in the bottom-right corner). Once you’re there, tap the three-line icon in the top-right corner to open the Menu.

See the screenshot attached for visual aid!

2. Tap on Settings

After opening the Menu at the bottom of the page, select “Settings“, the first option on the list. This will take you to the Instagram settings.

After opening the Account settings, scroll all the way down until you see the “Switch account type” option (it’s colored in blue).

Select it and follow my instructions below:

5. Select “Switch to Personal Account”

You’ll see two options – “Switch to Personal Account” and “Switch to Creator Account“. Select the first option to finally be done with this error.

6. Confirm the changes

Switching to a personal account on Instagram

Instagram will ask you to confirm the switch, since changing to a personal account will remove all your business-related features (read the notification in the screenshot above).

Select “Switch to Personal Account” to make the switch to your personal account, and you’re pretty much done.

How to Set My Personal Account to Private?

Now that you’ve switched to your account, you need to make it private.

It’s simple. Go to Menu – Settings – Privacy – Private Account.

Setting an Instagram account to private

You need to tap on “Private account” and switch it on, and you’ll know that the setting is enabled when it turns Blue instead of Grey.

Instagram will ask you to confirm the private switch and explain what this entails.

Basically, no one but your followers will see your videos and photos, but people will still be able to tag you, message you, or mention you.

Conclusion

It’s not possible to set an Instagram business account to private. That’s not how it works.

You can make your personal account private, though.

Go to Menu – Settings – Account – Switch Account Type – Switch to Personal Account.

Then, to make it private, go to Menu – Settings – Privacy – Private Account.

You will lose your insights data if you switch to a personal account. Switching back to a business profile will get you the insights data back!

FAQ

How do you fix “You have reached the limit of the number of businesses you can create at this time?”

You either have too many business accounts or a glitch somewhere.

Many Instagram users have encountered this error caused by a glitch.

So as you know, the Instagram app allows up to 5 business accounts linked to Facebook.

So, if you’re trying to make a 6th business account on Instagram, you may get this error.

But if you haven’t once made a business account, then the problem is elsewhere.

You could try re-linking your Facebook page by going to Facebook and disconnecting from the Instagram app.

Then, connect to it again.

You can also create a new Facebook page and link it to your Instagram account.

When you connect to Instagram and try to switch to a business account, it shouldn’t show the same error.

Lastly, you can switch one of your Instagram business accounts to a personal one.

If you do that, you can switch from another Instagram account to a business one.
