You suddenly can’t see YouTube comments and wonder what’s wrong? This guide will help you understand what’s happening and how to solve it.
This is why you can’t see YouTube comments:
- Outdated YouTube app on mobile
- Filled cache files (computer and mobile)
- Glitchy app
- Restricted Mode is on
- A browser extension is causing the issue
- The video has turned off comments
There’s a solution for every problem, though. So, keep reading for a step-by-step guide on seeing comments on YouTube again! I’ll explain each issue and how to solve it below.

Update the YouTube App
Sometimes, you can’t see comments on YouTube because the app is outdated. It needs to be updated to the latest version.
And if you don’t have it set up on automatic updating, you’ll be running an outdated app if you forget about it.
To update YouTube on mobile, follow the steps below:
1. Open Play Store

The first step is opening the Play Store app on your phone. Scroll through your app list until you find it. Or you might have Google Apps.
It’s all the same. When you find it, tap on it.
2. Search for YouTube

Once you open the Play Store, look for YouTube using the search bar at the top of the page. Type in “YouTube” and select an option.
3. Update YouTube

After you select an option, you’ll be taken to the YouTube page on the Play Store. This is where you can update the app if there’s an update available.
If there is one, you’ll see a green “Update” button next to the app’s name, to the right. If there’s no update available, it’ll only show the “Open” button (see picture above).
Tap on “Update” and wait for the app to finish updating. Then, try and see if you can view the comments on YouTube.
Clear the Cache
Another reason you cannot see the comments on YouTube is that your YouTube app/browser has a full cache folder.
The cache saves key information that helps you navigate certain apps and websites more efficiently. But when it gets filled up, it’ll have the opposite effect.
Whether you’re on a computer or mobile phone, you can clear the cache files in a few easy steps.
For Computer
If you’re on a computer, you’ll need to clear the browser cache to start seeing the YouTube comments again. Follow the steps below to do this:
1. Click on the three-dot icon in the top-right corner

Open your internet browser on your computer and look in the top-right corner for a three-dot icon. Click on it and continue with the guide.
2. Select “More Tools” – “Clear browsing cache“

After you click on the three-dot icon, a menu window will appear with multiple options. Look for the “More Tools” option and hover your mouse over it.
Then, select “Clear browsing data” in the following menu window that appears.
3. Select the data to clear and click on “Clear data“

In this window, you’ll need to select the type of data you want to delete. There’s the browsing history, the cookies, and the cache.
I recommend deleting all of it because it won’t affect your browsing experience too much. If you don’t use history, then all the better.
Select all three options and then click on “Clear data“. Now you should restart your browser and see if this has solved your YouTube issue.
For Mobile
It’ll be a bit more complicated if you want to clear the YouTube cache on mobile. It’s a longer-step process, not that it’s too complex.
Follow the steps below to do this:
1. Open your Settings

First, open your phone Settings. Look for a gear icon in your app list. Then, tap on that icon to open your settings.
2. Go to “Apps“

Once you open your phone settings, you’ll see a list of options. You’ll need to scroll down until you see the “Apps” or “Applications” option.
Tap on it and continue with the following steps.
3. Select “Manage Apps“

This step may not apply to you, so feel free to skip it.
After you select apps, you’ll be taken to another page with several options. Select “Manage Apps” from this menu and continue with the guide.
4. Look for YouTube

Now you’re on the phone’s app list. This is where all your installed apps are located. You can use the search bar at the top of the page to find YouTube faster.
Alternatively, you can look for YouTube manually. When you find it, tap on it.
5. Select “Clear data” at the bottom

Now that you’re on the settings page of the YouTube app look in the bottom-right corner of the page for the “Clear data” button. Tap on it!
6. Select “Clear cache“

If you don’t want to delete all data, you should select “Clear cache”. After you select “Clear data“, you’ll be asked what type of data you want to delete. This is what the guide is about, after all.
And it should solve your YouTube comment problem. After you tap on that, the process will finish almost instantly.
You can go back to YouTube and see if the problem is fixed.
Force-Close the YouTube App and Restart it
Sometimes, it’s the app that’s bugging out. If YouTube is buggy or has an error, it is best to force-close and restart it.
Follow the steps below to do this:
1. Tap/press on the Overview button/icon on your phone

To force-close the YouTube app, you’ll need to access the Overview menu on your phone. You can do this with the Overview icon/button at the bottom of your phone.
It’s either a physical button or a digital icon, like in my case (see picture above). It should also look the same, approximately.
It might look like a folder in some cases. Either way, tap on it to open the Overview menu.
2. Close the YouTube app

You have two choices here. You swipe right on the YouTube app to close it faster. Or tap on the big X button at the bottom to force-close all apps.
If you only want to close YouTube, swipe on the YouTube app. This will leave all other apps intact.
Now, restart YouTube by opening it from your app list. Go back to the video and see if you can view the comments now.
Turn off Restricted Mode
Restricted Mode is a less common but possible explanation for why you can’t see comments on YouTube.
This feature may hide certain videos or comments from a video identified as mature. Sometimes, it may glitch out and hide away the entire comments section.
So, you’ll need to turn it off if it’s enabled. You can do this both on a computer and on a mobile device. Follow the guide below to do this for both devices!
For Computer
Follow the steps below to turn off the YouTube Restricted Mode on a computer:
1. Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner

Open YouTube on your computer and look in the top-right corner for your profile picture. Click on it to open the YouTube menu.
2. Select “Restricted Mode“

Once you click on your profile picture, a menu will appear with multiple options. Look at the bottom of the menu for the “Restricted Mode” option.
Does it say it’s off or on? If it says “On“, then the Restricted Mode is enabled. Click on it to disable it. Once it says “Off“, then you’re good.
For Mobile
1. Tap on your profile picture in the top-right corner

Open YouTube on your mobile phone and look in the top-right corner for your profile picture. Tap on it, and you’ll open a small menu with several options.
Continue with the guide for the next steps!
2. Select “Settings“

Once you tap on your profile picture, you’ll see the menu above. Select “Settings“, the option at the bottom of the page.
3. Go to “General“

Once you open the settings, you’ll be taken to another page with multiple options. Now, tap on the first option – “General“.
4. Disabler Restricted Mode

In the General settings, scroll down until you see the “Restricted Mode” option. If it’s enabled, the marker will appear blue.
If it’s off, it will appear grey, like in the picture above. Make sure Restricted Mode isn’t enabled; if it is, disable it.
Then, see if you can view the YouTube comments on your previous video.
Disable Your Browser Extensions
Perhaps your browser extensions cause a glitch with your YouTube comments. Some extensions like AdBlock may interfere with the normal functioning of websites.
You can try disabling these extensions to see if it solves your issue. To do this, follow the steps below:
1. Click on the three-dot icon in the top-right corner

As before, click on the three-dot icon in the browser’s top-right corner. This will open a menu with several options.
2. Go to “More tools” – “Extensions“

After you tap the three-dot icon, find the “More tools” option and hover your mouse over it. This will open another set of options.
Find “Extensions” and click on it.
3. Disable all extensions

The Extensions tab contains all your browser extensions, including the ones that may cause your YouTube problem.
Since you don’t know which extension is to blame, disable all of them. A button next to each extension allows you to enable/disable it.
Turn off all your extensions, restart your browser, and see if you can view the YouTube comments. If the extension is enabled, the button is blue. If it’s disabled, it turns grey.
I recommend narrowing down the list until you find the culprit. It might be your AdBlock extension, so start there! If you can, it means one of your extensions is causing the problem.
The Video Creator Has Turned off Comments
Sometimes, you can’t view the comments on a video because there aren’t any. The video creator disabled the comment section before posting the video.
It means no one can comment on that video. That’s why you can’t see any comments. However, there’ll be a notification below the video saying that the comment section is disabled.
If they’ve turned off comments, there’s nothing you can do. There are no comments to see, so the problem doesn’t lie with you.
Conclusion
To summarize, several solutions can fix the invisible comments on YouTube:
- Clear the browser/YouTube app cache
- Update the YouTube app
- Force-close and restart the YouTube app
- Disable Restricted Mode
- Disable all your browser extensions
I recommend starting with the simplest solutions like force-closing and restarting the app. See if Restricted Mode is enabled, and then update the YouTube app.
If these don’t work, clear the cache and disable your browser extensions. If nothing works, maybe it’s because the creator has disabled comments on their video.
If you have any questions, post them below, and I’ll reply as soon as possible!
Can Youtubers delete comments on YouTube?
Yes, they can. If you suddenly can’t find your comment on a video, it means it might have been removed.
The creator can remove offensive, insulting, toxic, or spammy comments. You won’t be notified that your comment was removed either.
And then, YouTube itself can remove comments that may breach its Terms of Service and the user guidelines.
Other users can report your comment for abuse, threatening, offensive content, and more.
YouTube’s team will then check your comment and decide whether or not it breaches the user guidelines.
Content creators can also hide your presence on their channels. They don’t delete your comment, but others can’t see it either.
Only you and the content creator can see the comment. No one else can.
Why are comments restricted on YouTube?
Some comments are restricted on YouTube through the “Restricted Mode“. It means that whoever has that feature enabled won’t be able to see certain comments.
These comments may be:
– Too mature
– Offensive
– Toxic
– Racist
– Insulting
Without the “Restricted Mode” enabled, you’ll be able to see all comments on YouTube, no matter how offensive or mature they are.
This mode is useful for keeping your child’s internet activity under strict supervision. Unfortunately, they can easily disable this option if they know where to look.
They can easily enable and reenable the feature to not raise suspicions.
