How to Delete the Cover Photo on Facebook?

Deleting the cover photo on Facebook will take you through a few options and menus but nothing too complicated.

These are the steps for deleting your Facebook cover photo:

  1. Go to your Facebook profile
  2. Tap on your cover photo
  3. Select “View profile cover
  4. Tap on the three-dot icon in the top-right corner
  5. Select “Delete photo

Seems simple, but just in case do check out the below guide I did. I made sure to include screenshots every step along the way.

How to Delete Cover Photo on Facebook?

Deleting Your Facebook Cover: 5 Simple Steps…

As much personalization potential as the cover photo holds, sometimes it gets old. If you’re thinking about removing it, here’s how to do it in a few easy steps:

1. Tap on the Facebook Menu icon

Tap on the Facebook Menu icon

Begin by opening Facebook on your phone and look for the three-line (aka the Hamburger) icon in the top-right corner, right under the Messenger icon.

Give it a healthy tap and see what comes next:

2. Select your profile

Select your profile

Once you open the Menu through the Hamburger icon (laugh all you want ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), you should see your profile name and picture in the top-left.

Select yourself (your picture, that is) and proceed…

3. Select your Cover Photo and tap on “View profile cover

Select your Cover Photo and tap on “View profile cover’

When you reach your Facebook profile, look up to see your cover photo. It’s just above your profile picture. Tap on it, and a new menu will appear at the bottom.

Select “View profile cover” to open the cover photo in the menu.

4. Tap on the three-dot icon in the top-right corner

Tap on the three-dot icon in the top-right corner

Once you open your cover photo, look in the top-right corner for a three-dot icon. You’ll find your cover photo settings there…

Tap on the icon and see the next steps:

5. Select “Delete Photo

Select “Delete Photo”

Now, all you have to do is select “Delete photo” from the menu at the bottom of the screen. After doing that, your Facebook profile will be out of a cover photo.

But before that, confirm the deletion!

Facebook will ask you to confirm the deletion of your cover photo, so to appease the robot overlords, select “DELETE” (button in blue).

Also, remember that the cover photo won’t be available on your Facebook account once you delete it. It’s gone permanently.

…so make sure to save it first, if you will want to still use it in the future.

If you want to keep the present cover photo, you need to “change it”, not “delete it”. Switch to another cover photo, and the old one will be kept in your collections.

How Can I Delete an Older Cover Photo?

What if, instead of deleting the present cover photo, you want to delete an older one?

If you didn’t know by now, your old cover photos are all saved in your Albums.

So, here’s how to delete them:

1. Go to your Facebook Profile from your Menu

Go to your Facebook Profile from your Menu

Follow the same steps as in the guide above to get to your profile page on Facebook. Go to your Menu and then tap on your profile picture.

This will take you to your menu, where you can access your Albums. They contain all your older cover photos.

2. Tap on “Photos

Tap on “Photos”

Once you open your Profile, scroll down until you see the “Photos” button. It’s under the “Post” text box.

This should be the same on all devices but may differ on computers. Still, you’ll find the “Photos” or “Albums” features on your profile in the same place.

3. Select “Albums” and then “Cover Photos

Select “Albums” and then “Cover Photos”

In the “Photos”, select “Albums” at the top of the menu bar. This will open the Albums menu, where you can see multiple options.

Select “Cover Photos” and continue with…

4. Select a cover photo

Select a cover photo

This is where you’ll find all your cover photos in one place, including the ones you’ve used before.

Select the one you want to delete by tapping on it. This will open the cover photo in full screen.

5. Tap on the three-dot icon and then select “Delete photo

Tap on the three-dot icon and then select “Delete photo”

Once you open the cover photo in full screen, look in the top-right corner for the three-dot icon and tap on it.

When the menu appears, select “Delete photo” from the list and then confirm your action. This will delete the cover photo permanently from your account.

As I said, deleting your cover photo is easy and simple. But if you’ve come across problems with this guide, send me a message in the comments section below!

Can you recover a deleted cover photo?

No, you can’t. Facebook doesn’t save it in its databases. Once you delete a cover photo, it’s gone permanently.

You can save it before deleting it, though. If the photo is important to you, you might want to save it.

Alternatively, some of your friends might have it if they’ve saved it. Maybe you sent it to someone else, and it’s still on their private chat?

Or did you post it on a public post? You can get your cover photo in many ways, but not through Facebook customer support.

They can’t help you because they don’t have the cover photo. You’ve deleted it permanently, so it’s not on Facebook’s servers anymore.

But private chats and public comments are different. If you remember that you’ve sent the cover photo to someone, then you’ll find it there!

Can you hide a cover photo so no one can see it?

Yes, you can.

There’s no need to delete a cover or profile photo so that no one sees them. You can hide them on your profile.

Go to your Facebook profile and then:

– Tap on Photos
– Go to Albums
– Select Profile/Cover Photos
– Select a Profile/Cover Photo
– Tap on the three-dot icon in the top-right corner
– Select “Hide

This will hide the profile/cover photo from your feed and profile. However, it won’t hide it from public comments or private chats.

Also, people with the link to the picture can still access it.

Hiding the cover photo works great on Facebook, and we’ve tested it! But most likely, no one has the link to it. Because why would they?

Unforeseen errors, bugs, and other problems make their use of social media problematic. These things will be discussed amply in the guides on Whizcase.

I'll present the facts as they are, and offer quick and easy solutions for them.
