Why Does TikTok Keep Resetting?

TikTok’s resetting issue is far from new. For several years, users have been complaining about it constantly, and yet, it still hasn’t been fixed.

So, all we’re left with is troubleshooting it with any known fixes.

Try these fixes if your TikTok keeps resetting:

  1. Restarting your mobile device
  2. Uninstalling and reinstalling TikTok
  3. Clearing the TikTok cache
  4. Uninstalling some apps to clear some storage space
  5. Contacting TikTok customer support

Remember that this is a temporary glitch though… Most of the time it will just disappear on its own if you wait it out.

But if you are impatient you can follow the solutions above, and all your TikTok settings will be recovered immediately.

But enough talking (well, writing)… Let’s start, shall we? Go through my guide below and follow my instructions closely to get rid of this error!

Why Does TikTok Keep Resetting?

Why Does My TikTok Account Reset?

This issue is pretty common with TikTok. In most cases, we’re talking about a glitch, but there might be other factors at play:

  1. The TikTok servers are down
  2. Your phone storage is full
  3. Other apps may affect the performance of TikTok

TikTok experiences glitch quite often, judging by the many user complaints. While it’s uncommon that the app’s servers are down, this has happened in the past, so it wouldn’t be such a big surprise if that were the case now.

Another reason why your TikTok account has reset is that your phone storage is full. If TikTok’s cache is full, it can’t add other data so the app might glitch out as a result. Dumb, but it is what it is.

If there’s not enough storage for TikTok to function correctly, it might reset temporarily until you clear the cache. An overload of apps might also contribute to this problem.

In this case, you could try to uninstall some of the apps you’re not using. This will free up some storage space, solving the TikTok issue.

Below, I’ll start implementing these solutions for you to see, so keep reading!

Restart Your Mobile Device

Restarting your mobile is the simplest way you can prevent TikTok from resetting. Press the Power button to do that!

The Power button should be on the right side of your mobile device, below the volume buttons. Hold it down for several seconds.

Select "Reboot"
Select “Reboot”

After you hold down the Power button, a menu like the one in the picture above should appear. You should select the “Reboot” button to restart your phone.

After the mobile device reboots, log in to TikTok and see if the problem persists. If your TikTok account is still resetting, then try other solutions below:

Uninstall and Reinstall TikTok

If rebooting your phone doesn’t solve the problem, you should uninstall and reinstall the app. This will also “reset” but this time, in a good way (the best way).

The glitch should be gone after you reinstall and log back into TikTok. If you don’t know how to uninstall and reinstall TikTok, follow the steps below:

1. Open the phone settings

Open the phone settings
Open the phone settings

To uninstall TikTok, you must first find the app in your phone settings (which might differ between Android and iPhones).

Look for the Gear icon on your phone. That’s where you’ll find your settings, so select that option and keep following my advice below:

2. Select the “Apps” option

Select the "Apps" option
Select the “Apps” option

Next, you’ll be arriving in your phone settings, where you should see a list of options (Display, Battery, Wallpaper, Data, etc.)

Scroll through the list until you find the “Apps” option. That’s where you’ll be finding TikTok, so select it and keep reading!

3. Select “Manage Apps

Select "Manage Apps"
Select “Manage Apps”

Once you tap on “Apps,” you’ll be taken to another page where you must select “Manage Apps.” If this doesn’t option doesn’t exist on your phone or if it has a different name, select that one instead.

The objective here is to get to the app list.

4. Find TikTok and select it

Find TikTok and select it
Find TikTok and select it.

Inside the App List, you’ll need to find TikTok, and you can either do that manually or automatically. I recommend using the search bar at the top of the page to find TikTok easier.

If you don’t have a search bar, you’ll need to scroll down until you find TikTok. Select it and move to the next step!

5. Select “Uninstall

Select "Uninstall"
Select “Uninstall”

Once you select “TikTok,” you’ll land on the App Info page (the page highlighted in the picture above). This is where you can change the settings of the TikTok app (including notifications, battery and data usage, etc.)

You can uninstall the app by tapping on the “Uninstall” button at the bottom of the page (or anywhere else on the page). Once you do that, you’ll need to wait for several seconds until the app finishes uninstalling.

Then, open the Google Apps or Play Store to reinstall TikTok.

6. Reinstall TikTok from the Play Store

Reinstall TikTok from the Play Store

In the Play Store, you’ll find TikTok using the search bar at the top of the page. Once you find it, select it.

This will take you to the app page, where you should see an “Install” button next to the app’s name. The “Open” button replaces the “Uninstall” button in the picture above because I haven’t uninstalled TikTok.

Tap on “Install” and wait for the app to finish installing. Then, open it and see if your TikTok account is still reset.

If it is, try another solution!

Clear the TikTok Cache

While reinstalling TikTok does clear the cache, it’s still worth trying to clear the cache manually. You can do this from the “App info” page (look above).

To get to the “App info” page, go to Phone Settings – Apps – Manage Apps – TikTok (just like during the previous steps).

Once you’re on the “App Info” page for TikTok, select the “Clear data” option at the bottom.

Select the "Clear data" option at the bottom of the page
Select the “Clear data” option at the bottom of the page

The “Clear data” button is next to the “Uninstall” button at the bottom of the “App info” page. Select it and select “Clear cache” when the pop-up window appears.

Select "Clear cache"
Select “Clear cache”

Don’t select the “Clear all data” button because that will delete all your preferences and app settings, which you probably don’t want.

Instead, tap on the “Clear cache” button. That’s where the glitch comes from and why your TikTok account is resetting.

Uninstall Some Apps to Clear the Storage Space

Your TikTok may be resetting because there’s not enough storage space available. If that’s what’s causing the issue, you’ll need to uninstall some apps from your phone.

Go to Settings – Apps – Manage apps (like in the previous steps) and select some apps you’re not using anymore.

Then, uninstall them from the “App info” page (like in the previous steps with the TikTok app).

This will clear up some storage space and allow TikTok to perform its duties correctly. The glitch should disappear, but there’s one solution left if it doesn’t.

Contact TikTok Customer Support

If nothing else works, you should contact TikTok customer support and tell them about your issue. While this isn’t really a solution, you’re out of options, so:

1. Go to your TikTok profile

To report a problem to TikTok, you’ll need to go to your profile first. When you first open TikTok, you’ll land on the main page, where you can see other people’s videos.

To access your profile, look in the bottom-right corner of the page for the “Profile” button. Tap on it and move to the next step!

2. Tap on the Hamburger icon

Tap on the Hamburger icon

Once you open your TikTok profile, look in the top-right corner for the “Hamburger” icon (better known as the three-line icon).

Tap on it and proceed below:

3. Select the “Settings and privacy” option

Select the "Settings and privacy" option
Select the “Settings and privacy” option

Tapped the “Hamburger” icon yet? Good. Then, a pop-up menu should have appeared on the screen’s bottom. Select the second option – “Settings and privacy“.

4. Tap on the “Report a problem” button

Tap on the "Report a problem" button
Tap on the “Report a problem” button

In the TikTok “Settings and privacy” options, you should look for the “Report a problem” option. It’s under the “Support” menu, but if you can’t find it, consult the screenshot above. It’ll show you where that option is!

5. Tap on the “Feedback” icon in the top right corner

Tap on the "Feedback" icon in the top-right corner
Tap on the “Feedback” icon in the top-right corner

Once you get to the “Report a problem” page, you’ll see plenty of recommended issues that you can report. Ignore those, will you?

To file a report the right way, look in the top-right corner for the “Feedback” icon (see picture above) and tap on it.

6. Tap on the “Feedback” icon again

Tap on the "Feedback" icon again
Tap on the “Feedback” icon again

The “Your feedback” page contains all the reports you ever made to TikTok. This page would be empty if you didn’t file any report before (like in my case, am a good boy).

To file a new report, look in the top-right corner for the same “Feedback” icon as in the previous step. Tap on it to start filing a report!

7. Explain your issue and tap on “Report

Explain your issue and tap on "Report"
Explain your issue and tap on “Report”

On the “Report a problem” page, you’ll see a text box where you can explain your issue to TikTok. Say something like in the picture above – that your TikTok account keeps resetting, and nothing you did can solve the problem.

Then, tap on the big, red “Report” button to file the report to TikTok customer support.

You have to wait for TikTok support to send you an email. In it, they’ll explain what you can do to solve the resetting problem.

I hope this article has helped you solve your TikTok problem. Leave a comment down below if you have any questions!

How long will my TikTok stay reset?

I don’t know that. There’s no definitive answer to it. What I do know is that it’s a temporary problem.

TikTok might start functioning properly in an hour, three hours, or four days. I recommend trying to fix the problem as soon as you notice it.

You don’t know how long your TikTok account will stay reset. I haven’t been able to find out even on forums or official TikTok announcements.

If a server blackout causes the problem, it should be solved in the fastest time possible (several hours).

However, if the problem comes from your device, you’ll need to address it if you want to restore your account to its usual settings.

Either clear the TikTok cache, uninstall apps from your phone, or restart your mobile device.

This should eliminate the glitch!

How long until TikTok customer support responds?

After you contact TikTok customer support about your app resetting issue, you’ll need to wait a couple of hours or days.

It depends on how busy they are. If they get multiple reports from users, they won’t reply as fast.

But if it’s a free day, TikTok support usually responds within a few hours of you sending the report.

There’s nothing you can do either way. If you send the report on a Friday and they don’t reply that day, expect them to respond on Monday at the earliest.

The customer support team doesn’t work on weekends, only on weekdays.

After receiving a response from them, try solving your TikTok problem with their advice.
