Unblocking someone on Instagram when the app says the user is not found seems both impossible and annoying.
Fortunately, I can help you. Follow these steps to unblock a user on Instagram:
- Log into your Instagram account
- Go to your profile
- Tap on the Hamburger icon
- Select “Settings“
- Go to “Privacy“
- Select “Blocked Accounts“
- Tap on “Unblock” next to the account
You can unblock Instagram users both on a computer or mobile device, but we’ll do it on an Android phone for this article.
Below, you’ll find a step-by-step guide on unblocking people on Instagram with screenshots to help you out:

1. Tap on your profile picture

Begin by opening Instagram from your app list and selecting your profile picture in the bottom-right corner of the Instagram app.
The setting you need is located deep in your profile settings, so that’s our next stop. See the screenshot above if you don’t see your profile picture right away.
Then, do this:
2. Tap on the Hamburger icon

Tapping on the profile picture will open your profile page, where you’ll see your posts, followers, people you follow, and so on. Basic social media information, in short.
To open the account settings, find the three-line (or Hamburger) icon in the top-right corner of your profile page and give it a tap.
Then…
3. Select “Settings“

Selecting the three-line menu will open a menu at the bottom of the screen. Among the options listed here, you’ll find the “Settings“, “Archive“, “Your activity“, “QR Code“, “Saved“, and other options.
Select “Settings“, which is first on the list, to open the Instagram settings. See the screenshot above for additional help locating the “Settings” option!
4. Go to “Privacy“

Now that you’re finally in the Instagram settings, look for the “Privacy” option (third one on the list) and select it. Doing this will open all the privacy-related settings, including those of blocked accounts.
See below for more information!
5. Select “Blocked Accounts“

The “Privacy” page contains multiple options like “Story“, “Guides“, “Messages“, “Muted accounts“, “Blocked accounts“, and more.
Don’t worry if you can’t see the “Blocked accounts” option at first. Scroll down the page until you find it. It’s under the “Connections” heading (see the image above), so you can’t miss it.
Select it to gain access to your blocked accounts in Instagram.
6. Unblock the user

The final step is unblocking the user. On the “Blocked accounts” page (see image above), you’ll find a list of everyone you’ve ever blocked on Instagram.
Scroll through the list until you find the person you want to unblock, and then tap on the “Unblock” button next to their name.
Doing so will immediately unblock that person and let you interact with them normally.
Conclusion
To summarize, when you get the “User not found” error, it means you’ve blocked that person and forgot about it. It can also mean that they’ve blocked you, but that’s a topic for another guide.
To get rid of this error, you can unblock that user from your Instagram settings by following these steps:
- Log into your Instagram account
- Go to your profile
- Tap on the Hamburger icon
- Select “Settings“
- Go to “Privacy“
- Select “Blocked Accounts“
- Tap on “Unblock” next to the account
You should have no problem contacting that person or visiting their profile page after you unblock them. Similarly, they’ll be able to visit your profile page and talk to you normally.
However, if you keep getting the “User not found” error, it might be because they’ve blocked you too. And unblocking them will change nothing.
In that case, try contacting that person elsewhere to tell them to unblock you on Instagram.
