Technology has its bad days, and Snapchat is no different.
“Oops! We could not find matching credentials” – just the sight of it infuriates me. Well, luckily, the fix is simple enough – change your password and log into the app to fix it.
You’ll need your user email and phone number to change your password, though. Here’s a guide on how to do it:
- Open the App and tap on “Switch Account”
- Tap on “Forgot Your Password”
- Select “Email” or “Phone”
- Enter your Email and tap on “Submit”
- Open your Snapchat email and tap on the link
- Change your password
Are these steps not clear enough? Then I recommend going through my guide below. It includes screenshots and step-by-step instructions to help you out!
Guide on Resetting Password on Snapchat
Follow my instructions to reset your password on Snapchat:
1. Open Snapchat and tap on Switch Account
Assuming Snapchat is opened already, tap the “Switch account” option in the bottom-right corner of the Snapchat login screen.
2. Tap on Forgot Your Password
Next, you should have been redirected to the login screen. Ignore it. Instead, choose “Forgot your password?” to start the password resetting process.
3. Select Email or Phone
Now, you’ll be asked to select a method to reset your password. Phone or email. I’ll select “Email” for this guide, so you’d better do the same.
4. Enter your Email and tap on Submit
Enter your email address (you’ll receive a password reset link on it) and select “Submit” (see the image above) to continue.
5. Open your Snapchat email and tap on the link
Now, open your email provider (Google in my case) and search for the Snapchat password reset email. Open it and tap the provided link.
6. Change your password
Remember the link from before? Yeah, tapping on it will take you to this page (see above). Enter your new password, confirm it, and select “Save“.
Done, the error was fixed and you got me to thank for that. You’re welcome 😀
Leave a comment below if you have any questions or if the error still pops up!
Why does the “Oops! We could not find matching credentials” Snapchat error appear?
There are many potential causes for this error.
Maybe someone is trying to access your account, and Snapchat notices this.
Or there are many simultaneous access attempts made from many locations worldwide.
Snapchat has suffered several mass data leaks due to hacking attacks.
It’s only natural that the app locks accounts when nefarious activities are detected.
This error may also appear if your Snapchat app is outdated or the cache folder is full.
Reinstall the app and see if it fixes the error!
Another common cause of this error is a mistyping of the credentials.
Make sure you type in the correct username and password before you jump to conclusions.
How can you prevent the “Oops! We could not find matching credentials” error from appearing?
Since the likeliest cause of this error is suspicious activity with your account, try being more predictable.
Safeguard your credentials, and don’t let anyone else access them.
Don’t click on suspicious links or visit dubious websites. You may fall prey to phishing attempts.
Hackers could use your data to access your Snapchat account and commit illegal activities in your name.
That’s why Snapchat locks your account sometimes.
They want to protect your account from hackers.
When you change your password, you prove you’re still in control of your account. Add Image.
Will Snapchat customer support fix the “Oops! We could not find matching credentials” error?
If changing your password doesn’t fix the error, you can contact Snapchat for a fix.
They should help you solve it, but it may take a long time.
Depending on their busy schedules, it might take a few days to a few weeks.
You can send multiple appeals via the feedback form, though.
But only if they don’t answer in a few days.
If you keep spamming them, it won’t help your case.
