Did They Read It? How to Check if Someone Read Your Discord Message

There’s no straightforward way of knowing if someone has read your messages on Discord. That’s because there are no read receipts on Discord.

However, what you can do is:

  1. Ask the other person if they’ve seen your message
  2. Send a follow-up message to get their attention
  3. Check their online status

To be honest, there isn’t much you can do to ensure that the other person has read your message. Without ‘read receipts’, it’s just a guessing game at best. I’m sorry.

There might still be some things you may want to try. They aren’t much, but perhaps could be of help.

Check them out below:

Send a follow-up message to your friend

The first way of knowing if someone read your message on Discord is to send them a follow-up message after your initial one.

Since there are no read receipts on Discord, you’ll never know if the other person has read your first message.

So, just ask them. Send a follow-up message on the chat asking them if they’ve seen your message. If you’re in luck, they’ll reply.

But what if they don’t? You’ll still be uncertain if they’ve seen your first message. Perhaps they’ve seen your second one, too, and they refuse to reply.

Check out my guide on what happens when you delete a Discord message. Maybe your friend has deleted your message without reading it.

In that case, use the second solution on this list!

Check Their Online Status

The second method of ensuring someone has read your message on Discord is to check their online status.

You’ll find the other person’s online status next to their name, either under “Direct Messages” or in the Chat window.

If the marker is greyed out, like in the picture above, it means they’re offline. This means they haven’t seen your message yet.

However, this could also mean the other person intentionally hides their online status and pretends to be offline. What a cheeky bugger…

They might have seen your message if the marker is green, but that’s not a guarantee. Perhaps they are away from the keyboard or in a game.

In the end, there’s no way of knowing if someone has read your message on Discord. The lack of reading markers makes this impossible.

I know this is probably disappointing but it’s just how it is.

My name is Alex and I have a knack for social media in all its shapes and forms. I’ve dealt with such things for quite some time and I noticed that many people have issues with social media and technicalities.

Unforeseen errors, bugs, and other problems make their use of social media problematic. These things will be discussed amply in the guides on Whizcase.

I'll present the facts as they are, and offer quick and easy solutions for them.
