Most Popular TikTok Trends in 2023

Are you here looking for TikTok’s latest and most popular trends? That’s what I’m here to talk about, so keep reading.

Here’s a list of the most popular TikTok trends in 2023:

  • What Should You Do When…
  • Barbie Dancing Dogs
  • You Got Me There
  • #BoldGlamour Hashtag Trend
  • Reasons Why
  • It Was Never That Serious
  • Flowers – Miley Cyrus
  • Before and After Trends
  • Shakira’s Dance Challenge

In total, 9 trends. I’ll give you a general rundown of what they’re about as well as the average number of videos that capitalize on them.

These trends aren’t from a specific niche but rather I’ve looked at how fast they grew in popularity since they appeared.

Some are about social stereotypes, others are about popular songs, and others are about normal situations looked upon from a particularly funny point of view.

Without further ado, let’s get started!

1. What Should You Do When…

This trend started relatively recently, in February 2023, and it’s mostly about decisions that people make when they get some money.

Usually, it’s a comparison between what you “should” do and what you secretly “want” to do with that money.

First, you’ll see the caption “What do we do when/what should we do when we get paid” or something like that. Then, the lip-syncing sound says “Party“.

At that moment, you’ll have to put out a caption where you say what you secretly want to do with that extra money, like buying a new pair of sneakers instead of paying the rent.

There are more than 60,000 videos with this trend today!

2. Barbie Dancing Dogs

This trend shows two dancing dogs busting out dance moves on video soundtracks from Sparkles and Lily from Barbie and the Diamond Castle.

You can apply whatever caption you want as long as the end result is hilarious, with the dogs dancing in the background.

Over 700,000 TikTok videos are using this trend at the moment of writing this article, so it’s a very popular trend.

3. You Got Me There

This trend shows a creator reacting to someone criticizing them for something they did.

The main idea behind the video is that, indeed, what you did might have been “wrong” but definitely not illegal, as you will emphasize with a caption.

There are over 47,000 videos using this trend on TikTok as you’re reading this, and many more are appearing every day.

To find this trend, simply search for “you got me there” or better yet, “that is not a crime” on TikTok and you’ll find plenty of videos with this trend.

4. #BoldGlamour Hashtag Trend

The “#boldglamour” trend uses one of the most realistic makeup filters available on TikTok. It doesn’t show any visual blurriness or shakiness and many will not even realize there’s a filter on.

It quickly caught on in February 2023 and now there are over 90 million videos with this trend on TikTok. The filter is much slower to use than regular filters but it’s 100% worth it if you want a seamless makeup filter.

You will need to use the “#boldglamour” hashtag in your video to become a part of this trend, though.

And if you’re trying to find videos using this trend, simply look for “bold glamour” on TikTok!

5. Reasons Why

This trend started in January 2023 and it has over 150,000 videos under its belt by now. The concept is simple – you add the caption “X reasons why” and then you complete with something like “I love icecream“.

However, the most popular type of “reasons why” in this trend follows a different structure. Basically, you give several reasons why you shouldn’t do something.

But then you end up doing that thing even if you were aware it was a bad decision. Why? I couldn’t tell you, honestly. Much of what happens on TikTok is at the mercy of havoc.

You can find this trend if you look for “reasons why” on TikTok!

6. It Was Never That Serious

This trend is pretty simple – it plays on the old overreacting trope. More specifically, it ridicules a situation in the past when you overreacted only to turn out that it wasn’t as serious as you initially thought.

So, the overreaction on your part was, in fact, an overreaction. Hence the name overreaction, get it?

There are more than 136,000 videos following this trend on TikTok, so you can take your pick from any one of them.

Just search for “it was never that serious” on TikTok and you’ll find a treasure trove of worthwhile and smart clips to consume for some dopamine!

7. Flowers – Miley Cyrus

You must have heard of “Flowers“, Miley Cyrus’ super ultra mega hit that hit the world earlier this year. Well, it spawned a trend on TikTok because, of course, it did.

The song was dedicated to the pop star’s breakup with her ex, so the trend took on this tone as well. Creators put out the song in the background and showcase their carefree attitudes toward their exes.

One of these creators even got a reaction from Miley Cyrus herself. Quite the historical moment right there, on TikTok, in 2023.

Look for “Flowers Miley Cyrus” on TikTok and you’ll find what you need!

8. Before and After Trend

The Before-and-After trend is as old as time itself, it seems. It never dies out because there’s an endless trove of topics to go with it.

This latest one shows how different company logos have evolved over time. When the trend first appeared, over 2,000 videos popped up in less than a month, so its popularity is unquestionable.

But you might think that this new trend is being used by content creators. Nope. The brands themselves are posting videos with the new trend.

They want a slice of the action on TikTok, and it’s completely understandable.

Either way, if you want to find this new trend, look for “before and after logo/product/services” on TikTok and you should find plenty of videos.

9. Shakira’s Dance Challenge

Shakira released a new song in 2023 and it it’s in everyone’s mouth as of late, especially TikTokers who are doing dance challenges.

There are over 4 million videos with this trend at this moment, and Shakira herself tried the challenge and posted it online.

You can find these videos on the platform by searching for “Shakira Dance Challenge“. There are a lot, so just pick your poison and enjoy!

And that’s all about the most popular trends on TikTok in 2023. I may do another piece on the most popular TikTok trends in history, or the most dangerous ones.

We’re all aware that TikTok breeds some of the stupidest, riskiest, and most dangerous trends in existence. That should be an interesting read.
